The Entourage Effect

Whole plant extractions serve as better therapeutic agents than individual cannabinoid extractions.

Entourage Effect

The “entourage effect” is a term coined by Prof. Raphael Mechoulam, known as the “Father of Cannabis.” Dr. Mechoulam is the scientist who isolated THC and CBD. He discovered that the interactive synergy of the full spectrum of therapeutic cannabinoid compounds, all work harmoniously together to stimulate healing and maximize the benefits of each individual cannabinoid and terpene in the cannabis plant.

What gives cannabis its character are the over 480 natural components it contains. These include THC and CBD (cannabidiol), along with other compounds called terpenes and flavonoids. They have been found to work more effectively when consumed together from the whole plant than isolated as a single extract. The presence of multiple cannabinoids and terpenes in a strain or product will provide the most significant therapeutic value. Cannabis naturally provides whole plant medicine that works with our endocannabinoid system to strengthen, balance and heal our whole body.

The Importance of Whole-Plant Diversity

Although most cannabis is bred for high THC content today, research about the effectiveness of whole plant, or the entourage effect, medicine is expanding. Chemical diversity will likely lead to new strains that combine levels of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids, as well as terpenes. This whole-plant approach has great potential for bringing superior relief to patients with a variety of medical conditions. Once you understand is, you’ll see why medicines containing only THC or CBD aren’t always sufficient for many medical conditions.

Full-Spectrum CBD

For those using hemp-based CBD products, that are now available online, it is suggested to use a full-spectrum CBD, which also contains a variety of essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, terpenes, flavonoids, and fiber.
